Thank you for this. (this, especially: "The result is a vicious cycle in which shame for falling behind is trained inward, causing people to blame themselves for the hardships they face. And bad policy thrives on the silence that shame fosters.") I'm in it with you. See SharedProsperityNarrative.com and please LMK if you'd be open to a conversation about how we can boost each other's effort?

First

I hope you remember that neoliberalism is not just a conservative ideology. That it is a creation of the current donor class of both democrats and Republicans. (though to be honest it is perfected by Republicans)

Second

That shame and self blame are not just depended upon by the elite but that it is MANUFACTURED by the donor class and their minions in the major media outlets in their op-eds, opinion pages and TV and magazines as well.

The donor class has almost unlimited funds and influence to spread the BS, they also send vast sums in the art of division.

Dividing groups who should be uniting. Just look at how they are creating divisions between age cohorts and generations. (ie GEN X are lazy slackers, gen Y hates millennials etc. It is all of a piece).

I will go out on a limb and also say that the strict focus on Identity Politics is a major force used by the elite to maintain power also by sowing divisions.

To me the bottom line has always been class and power. With divisions being used as vehicles to maintain power.

Until the means of narrative creation are free of billionaire monopoly and influence (corporate person hood) the current problems will not be solved.
